Light therapy - cellular repair, pain managment & collegen production.
Inlight wellness system - FDA cleared
Light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), uses specific wavelengths, like red and near-infrared light to stimulate cellular function and accelerate tissue repair. By targeting the mitochondria—the energy-producing centers of our cells—light therapy enhances the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), improving cellular metabolism, reducing oxidative stress, and promoting the regeneration of soft tissue. These effects have been studied extensively in the fields of sports medicine and physical rehabilitation, where PBM has shown measurable benefits in decreasing inflammation, reducing muscle and injury recovery time, as well as supporting nerve and skin regeneration.
At Holistic Healing Harbour in SW Portland, Oregon, light therapy add-ons using medical-grade LED diode pads, are available as part of your massage session and run for 20 minutes during your treatment.
Depending on your therapeutic goals, 2 to 6 light therapy pads may be applied to targeted areas. Because the light therapy runs simultaneously with your massage, longer sessions allow for more areas to be treated effectively within the same visit.
FDA cleared and approved uses for light therapy:
Pain relief and musculoskeletal healing
Skin rejuvenation & acne
Hair regrowth
Dry age-related macular degeneration
Neonatal jaundice treatment (blue light)
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)
Photodynamic therapy
When combined with massage therapy, light therapy can deepen the physiological effects of manual treatment by addressing pain and inflammation at the cellular level. This synergy enhances circulation, encourages lymphatic flow, and facilitates tissue remodeling in injured or overused areas. As an add-on to bodywork, light therapy offers a non-invasive, FDA-cleared method for supporting the body’s natural healing processes—making it a powerful option for clients recovering from injury, managing chronic pain, or simply looking to optimize therapeutic outcomes
Red light and near-infrared light Therapy
Light therapy applied to the face and head offers a range of regenerative benefits for skin health, neurological function, and cranial tension. Red and near-infrared light penetrate gently into facial tissues, where they stimulate collagen production, improve circulation, and support cellular repair in the dermis—making it a popular tool for promoting a more vibrant, youthful complexion. Beyond aesthetics, targeted light therapy can help reduce inflammation in the sinuses, improve eye function, ease tension around the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and more.
Emerging research also suggests benefits for brain health and mood when light is applied over the forehead and scalp. Near-infrared wavelengths can penetrate through the skull to influence cerebral blood flow and mitochondrial function in brain cells, which has been linked to improved mental clarity, reduced symptoms of anxiety and seasonal depression (SAD), and enhanced cognitive resilience. When used during massage therapy sessions, facial light therapy becomes a soothing yet potent way to rejuvenate both appearance and nervous system function.
